Story Re-teller

We picked her up recently, she was hanging out in a backyard. We needed help to reach the Black Sea shore (repeat that 10 times out loud). But she turned out to have many more useful talents than, just, navigating us to a Romanian sea resort.

So our new best friend in the south, Sorina, is now making this drawing for us. This is just two scans out of the 9 papers it takes in the end. Soon you’ll get the chance to buy it from us in it’s entiry, and to meet her too – she’ll be witnessing the Distorted version of Copenhagen alongside the rest of our crew. Hugs and Thank You For Clapping. We hope you’ll enjoy your STAY!

More Weekend…

Yes as Thomas says there’s P.Toile tonight at the chamber of bestial behavior – aka Dunkel. I can’t for the life of me comprehend why anyone would choose dubstep headaches over Claudia’s elegant Techno ;-) – and I’m totally unbiased on this issue.

Here’s a nice unrelated flyer I just happen to have made btw…

Falling in love with Corinne – and dancing our dance.

Yeah I’m posting the same video twice in 6 hours – it’s that good! ;-)

No, but I forgot to make a point. Of some sort. So here I’ll have a go at putting an art performance in context with creativity in general and some other mumbling shit…here goes:

I don’t care to talk to you creatively – If… you’re not on a quest – for excellence. In your craft – whatever it may be. It’s harsh words to some ears, but I’d go further, I want to strive to eliminate those people from all edges of my creative life – that don’t share this “quest”. But on the flip side I want to invite into my life all those, many thousands out there, who in stoner terms ‘get it’

So what ‘getting it’ about? I don’t have a theory on talent in place, yet. (I’ll make one if you read on a bit – I’m sure) But talent is not as important as attitude. By a mile. By attitude I mean: approach, perspective, flexibility — but most of all – and in all of these lies one unifying theory; a quest for excellence – no strike that – it’s another e word I’m looking for – Elegance. – A Quest for Elegance. It’s more specific and evocative (to me).

It’s not about the steps – it’s about the dance. The feel of all the elements coming together – through: knowledge, experience, presence, conviction, passion – and that most intangible of things – an increased brain capacity to synthesize sensory experiences (and/or ideas) in stimulating way (maybe?) which we call ‘artistic talent’.

And then there’s that ‘intangible factor’ (did you think ‘X’ ? – you corporate monkey) which sets itself apart in sheer force from all others. The one we all know when we see it (even though it’s of course different to all of us). For me – that’s my initial experience of hearing this song. My first knowledge of Corinne Bailey Rae’s existence on this planet. It’s about as good an introduction as you could ever hope to make.

I’ll probably work another 10 years and still only dream to hit this amount of – elegance in my “dance”. This is about more than those other things at which you can focus and strive and work hard to get at (in my view) – this is being graced by the divine. Which is segue to the second video I want to show today, Elizabeth Gilbert, doing a much better job at formulating what I’m mumbling about here…

Have a nice day!

On The Uniqueness of Humans

Yet, another, another, another, another mind blowing TED talk, this time from

Robert Sapolsky, world renowned professor of neurology, neurological sciences, neurosurgery and biological sciences gave the class day lecture in association with commencement weekend 2009. Having been selected to talk by the Stanford University graduating class, Sapolsky spoke about the uniqueness of humans in relation to the rest of the animal world. A few of the topics he spoke on include aggression, theory of mind, the golden rule and pleasure.

Hitting on a few familiar notes…

I’ll start out by linking a few musical discoveries (since I have no new work in a state to show right now)… I’ve been raving about this, late in the game, discovery of mine, for the last three weeks or so. Phantogram (formerly Charlie Everywhere), is a Saratoga Springs based duo consisting of guitarist Josh Carter and keyboardist Sarah Barthel. Their debut album has been out for around a year by now – but if you haven’t already been familiarized with them – and especially if you’ve enjoyed stuff like the XX’s debut, then – well – then enjoy this!

The second recent discovery, is not so much a discovery – as a revelation – between friends. I’ve worked with 2/3’s of this band previously, under different guises (Jacob from I Got You On Tape and Jakob from Moi Caprice). With their mate Tobias (from Maborosi) they become The Late Great Fitzcarraldos – here is a single preview from their 4 track e.p. out on danish label Speed of Sound.

Enjoy, Enjoy.
